People watching
Our task was to ‘people watch’ in a
public place, such as a mall, and write a paragraph on our findings.
I can see people from all round the world and I can guess where they are from by what they are wearing, from all
different cultures - wearing traditional clothing such as Kandora, Abaya, Sari etc. I can guess where they from, but I can not guess whats their religion. Some are shopping some are siting in a coffee shop and some are eating in the food foodcourt. From my observations I can clearly see that people from
certain cultures tend to stick with other people from their own cultures. These
groups seem to be from older generations, whereas the younger generations seem
to be in mixed culture groups. For example, the older Emiratis are staying
within their culture groups –sitting together in cafes, speaking in Arabic. The
younger Emiratis are speaking English to their foreign friends. In conclusion,
from ‘people-watching’ in the mall, I can safely say that Abu-Dhabi seems to be
one of the most multi-cultural cities.
